About
The programs organized within the framework of the Rural Development Gheorgheni/Gyergyószentmiklós Open Farm Weekend focus on cheesemaking, the world of medicinal herbs, and family-friendly, experience-based farm activities.
Visitors can gain insight through guided sessions into the journey of milk from pasture to long-aged cheeses, discover traditional processing methods, and learn about the use of medicinal herbs and natural ingredients.
Program
May 29 (Friday) | 09:00–15:00
● “Step into the workshop of nature!” – experiential cheesemaking visit
During the day, several guided tours introduce the journey of milk from pasture to long-aged cheeses.
Departure times: 10:00, 12:00, 14:00
Participants can explore the cheesemaking and aging process, learn about traditional tools, and visit the aging cellar where cheeses mature for years. The visit includes tastings of award-winning cheeses and artisanal natural yogurt.
● “Fragrant regeneration – where the pasture heals”
An experiential session introducing the world of medicinal herbs and spices, highlighting the healing power of nature.
Departure times: 11:00, 13:00
Participants can learn about traditional herbs and their uses while tasting herbal tea and herb-based pastries.
May 30 (Saturday) | 09:00–13:00
● “Step into the workshop of nature!” – cheese visit and tasting
Departure times: 10:00, 12:00
The same program as on Friday: insight into milk processing, cheese aging, and cheese and yogurt tasting.
● “Fragrant regeneration – herbal experience”
Departure: 11:00
Presentation of herbs, spices, and their traditional uses, accompanied by herbal tea and pastry tasting.
June 1 (Monday) | Children’s Day – Wonder Day | 09:00–15:00
The final day of Open Farm Days is a true Children’s Day celebration, where cheese, play, and chocolate take center stage.
● “Step into the workshop of nature!” – experiential visit
Departure times: 10:00, 12:00, 14:00
Cheesemaking demonstration, aging cellar visit, and cheese & yogurt tasting.
From 11:00: children’s milking competition with surprises.
● “All about chocolate Children’s Day” – Szikrakitchen experience
From 10:00
Children can take part in chocolate cake making, learning about ingredients and the baking process. While the cake is baking, they enjoy a yogurt-based treat. At the end, each child takes home their own cake and the recipe.
