Following the Storks – nature, heritage and local flavours
“Following the Storks” is a StorkNest thematic route of approximately 4.5 hours, starting and ending at Henter Manor in Sântimbru. The experience turns a horse-drawn carriage ride into a slow journey through the landscape of the Lower Ciuc Basin, using the white stork as a narrative thread connecting nature, heritage, farming and local community life.
The programme begins in the StorkNest visitor room, continues with stork and landscape observation using binoculars and a spotting scope, and then follows an approximately 15 km horse-drawn carriage route through the Natura 2000 landscape. Along the way, participants stop for landscape interpretation, a seasonal introduction to local aromatic and medicinal plants, a visit in the area of St Mary’s Chapel, and a picnic with local products and herbal tea.
The route is designed for visitors who want to discover the area at a slower pace through observation, stories and direct experiences. Wildlife sightings depend on the season and the conditions on the day, while the plant-related activity is adapted to the season and nature-protection rules.
