About
Children's Concert but not only for children
Author: Sándor Balogh (Budapest)
(Not only) for children, this fabulous musical play is performed by the excellent artists of the Ciuc Chamber Orchestra, as they have done in recent years, in the middle of October.
Also Friedrich Schiller, the dramatist (who wrote the lyrics for Beethoven's symphony entitled Ode to Joy), wrote in his Wallenstein trilogy, Die Piccolomini: "My childhood tales have a deeper meaning than the truths taught by life." Over the centuries, as the tales were retold and retold, written down and altered, they were transformed and took on both overt and hidden meanings.
The tale of Town Musicians of Bremen is well known throughout Europe. George Cruikshank, a 19th-century British caricaturist and book illustrator, created the image motif for it in 1876 — a pyramid of musicians that still symbolizes the Bremen Town Musicians today. Since then, numerous storytellers and illustrators have taken up this story, using it and their delicate drawings to hold up a mirror to human behavior.
The fact that the animals that appear are in pain and suffer from the world makes them very human. Their phrase, "You can find something better than death anywhere," makes them very sympathetic and convincing as a community formed out of necessity. This is very reminiscent of a community of senior citizens who confidently stand up to a society that ignores them.
Together with the musicians of the Ciuc Chamber Orchestra, Sándor Balogh tells the story in a very playful way. Originally composed for brass ensemble in 2007, the performance is now being performed in a chamber orchestra version for the first time! The four well-known main characters, the donkey, the dog, the cat and the rooster, are joined by another sufferer: the cow. Similar to Sergei Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf, Balogh also presents the "musicians" with different instruments – let's discover them! The narrator who guides us through the story is the actor László Puskás (Miercurea Ciuc).
The performance is also a challenge for the audience, with plenty of interactive play opportunities in this 45-minute musical parade. If the adults accompany the little ones to the performances, they won't be bored either!
The conductor of the evening will be also the author Sándor Balogh, the narrator László Puskás (Miercurea Ciuc).
