About

Joint concert by the Ciuc Chamber Orchestra and the Georgius Chamber Orchestra

The Ciuc Chamber Orchestra and the Georgius Chamber Orchestra from Sfântu Gheorghe commemorate the 1956 revolution and its heroes. Their program features two emblematic orchestral works by Ludwig van Beethoven, the Egmont Overture and his Symphony No. 3 in E-flat major, subtitled Eroica.

The conductor for the evening will be Gábor Horváth from Budapest, who has visited our city several times.

The Egmont Overture, composed for Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's drama Egmont, originally designated as a tragedy, depicts Count Egmont of the Low Countries and the 16th-century freedom movements in the region. The work is also a symbol of the 1956 revolution, because the piece was played repeatedly on the radio on the night of 23th October and in the following days.
The title of the Eroica Symphony also conveys heroism. The work was originally composed in 1804 in honor of a hero and an ideology. The hero was the French military commander and general Napoleon I, and the ideology was the (French) struggle for freedom.

Concert supported by the Mayor's Office of Miercurea Ciuc, by Cinema Csíki Mozi, by Georgius Association and the Ciuc Chamber Orchestra Association.

Adult tickets cost 30 lei, children's and senior tickets 20 lei, which can be purchased at the ticket office of the Cinema Csíki Mozi.
